【Lesson 1 of Watches】Must know! The 4 basic structural parts of watches

Hello everyone. I'm Lin Tsai from Lam Workshop. I often chat with customers on the front line, and found that many people want to know the basic structure of watches, but the Internet is flooded with introductions of all kinds of famous watches. The complex functions of watches are difficult to understand, but there is a lack of simple "introduction information". Therefore, I write this article, hoping that the "Watch First Class" series can provide a brief introduction to watches for beginners.

movement

Movement: The movement is the heart of the watch, responsible for converting energy (eg electricity) into the movement power of the watch. All the secrets that make the hands of the watch move are stored in the movement. The more popular movements at present are "mechanical movement" and "quartz movement" with battery, and our discussion will revolve around these two watches. Secondly, there are also Smart Watch, solar watch, tuning fork watch and so on.

Mechanical movement: The mechanical watch is the original form of a clock. The watch is driven by the wheel train by rolling the mainspring. There are two ways to wind up the watch: manual winding and automatic winding. Most mechanical watches today are self-winding watches that use an oscillating weight to harvest power from hand movements. Some also come with a manual winding structure.

Quartz movement: The battery is used as the energy source, and the "quartz crystal" is used to generate regular vibrations, and the integrated circuit drives the wheel train to drive the pointer to run. Due to the stable vibration function and high accuracy of the quartz watch, it has quickly become the mainstream watch style in the market since it was mass-produced in the 1960s.

case

The silver stainless steel part is the case of the watch

Case: The case that carries the movement and protects it. The case structure not only protects the movement, but also makes the watch have a better appearance and texture. Generally, the water resistance of a watch refers to the degree of water resistance of the watch case to prevent water from entering the case through the gaps in the watch case and affecting the operation of the movement . A well-designed watch that provides greater water resistance and greater protection for the crystal and movement.

Common case materials: plastic, alloy, brass, bronze, aluminum, stainless steel

High-strength case materials: titanium, carbon fiber, ceramic

Precious Metal Case Material: Gold, Platinum, Silver

put it

(In the green frame, the golden part is the handle head, and the connected silver thin rod is the handle core)

Put it: Taiwan or Mainland China will call it "Crown" or "Dragon Head". The handle is composed of a "handle head" and a "handle core". The "handle head" protrudes from the case, and the metal rod with spiral patterns is the "handle core". Although the "handle" of the dice is very useful to the user! It turns out that it is a button used to adjust the time of the watch and realize various functions of the watch. By "pushing" and "turning", you can Start and adjust other functions of the watch.

strap

Strap: The material that binds the watch case to the wrist, the most common ones are nylon strap, stainless steel strap, leather strap, rubber, etc. To choose a suitable strap, watch users should depend on the occasion where the watch is worn and the clothing at that time.

Leather strap : Create an elegant and noble feeling for the dress. The disadvantage is that the leather cannot be exposed to water and can only be cleaned with a dry cloth. Long-term contact with sweat will make the strap smelly and even break.

Nylon strap : Originally designed as a strap for military watches due to the low cost and wear resistance of nylon. Later, nylon belts were available in more and more colors, and became a style for young people to match with casual wear.

Steel watch strap : The metal watch strap is characterized by being strong and not easy to break. Therefore, the watches purchased in vintage stores are mainly steel belt watches. The downside is weight, the heaviest of all strap materials.

Rubber watch strap: Divided into plastic, rubber, silicone and so on. The characteristics of each material are also different, but in general rubber watch straps are also very light and easy to clean.
